This overnight trip has proven to be one of our most popular – they keep booking out! When you think about it, though, it’s not surprising. You have two wonderful days and come home feeling like you’ve been away for much longer!

The big feature of this trip is the superb Monarto Zoo. Did you know that it’s the largest open range zoo in the world?! For that we have to thank the failed satellite city of Monarto – a project from the 1970s that never quite left the drawing board. However, it meant that the land was available for developing what has to be one of the best attractions in SA.

Just recently Monarto opened their brand new visitor centre. For such an incredible zoo, it now has a visitor centre that matches the scale of the experience here.

We spend the majority of the day at Monarto. We have a specialist guide from the Zoo join us on board, and they take us all around Monarto. The range of animals here is surprising, and it’s quite special to be able to be so close to them as they move freely in their own areas. The tour can often throw up a surprise or two – I remember one time when a lion decided to attack the front bumper of the bus! Try explaining that to the insurance company!

We have lunch here at Monarto, then time to explore at your leisure or perhaps join in one of the special experiences (these need to be prebooked and are an extra cost) like feeding the giraffes or getting up close to the lions!

We stay at Mannum overnight, and on our second day we cruise the Murray where we see birds of prey being fed.

Of course, there’s lots more than this, it’s best to read the detailed itinerary! But be quick, because it’s likely that these trips will book out quickly, just like the last ones.
