We stay overnight in Clare before exploring Bungaree Station and Blythe the next day. Come and join in the fun on this relaxing short getaway.

Day One – TUESDAY 9 JULY 2019

(includes light lunch and three course dinner)

After completing home pick-ups (limited areas*) we make our way north out of Adelaide.  As we pass through the northern suburbs and continue to Gawler, the landscape begins to change and we pause to enjoy morning tea along the way. The beauty of the famous Barossa region is clear for us to see as we head to Nuriootpa and the highlight of our tour!

Our hosts at the Vine Inn will be expecting us and we are welcomed to the Memories and Melodies show with Linda McCarthy, an entertainer with a sense of humour and great personality!  Whilst we are entertained by songs from musicals and film, we are served a special three course ‘Christmas in July’ lunch with turkey and all the trimmings! (Please note that there are no choices for lunch as a set menu is offered.)

At the conclusion of the show we depart Nuriootpa for Clare, one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. Our accommodation for the evening is at the picturesque Clare Valley Motel (Ph. 08 8842 2799), renowned for its friendly service and great restaurant.  We’re sure to have much to talk about when we come together for our dinner!

Day Two – WEDNESDAY 10 JULY 2019

(includes cooked breakfast and two course lunch)

After a hearty cooked breakfast we farewell our hosts in Clare and travel a short distance north to the tourism award-winning Bungaree Station. This picturesque rural property became the headquarters of a large sheep station of 100,000 merino sheep in 1841 and as a result grew to be like a small village. The beautiful sandstone buildings include the homestead, woolshed, shearers’ quarters, store, manager’s house, council chambers, a church and staff cottages. We have a guided tour of this impressive station which provides a glimpse into the lives of the wealthy gentry of the 1800’s. Following the tour we are treated to morning tea in these beautiful surrounds.

The original Station Store is now home to a Farm Shop which offers a true ‘farmgate’ experience with products from the Station, neighbouring property Anama Park, as well as a variety of boutique produce from the Clare Valley.

From here we will take the short drive back through Clare before heading west to the town of Blyth, recognised as a small community with a big spirit!

Blyth is home to the remarkable Medika Gallery, where the artist Ian Roberts, paints and displays his artworks and prints. Ian has developed a reputation for amazing paintings of Australian birds and is recognised as one of Australia’s premier bird artists. His artworks are extremely realistic and feature fine detail. In the hills of Clare, he grew native flowering plants to attract his subjects! He also has exquisite paintings of eucalypts and other native Australian plant species.

After spending time at the Gallery, we make our way to the local hotel where we can sit, relax and enjoy a delicious two course hot lunch.

We then make our way back into Adelaide’s suburbs and begin returning everyone home after two wonderful days making memories of music and fun with friends. This will certainly be a superb two-day break!
